Chicago Shootings: 8 Dead, 25 Wounded Over Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend ended with a string of shootings on the streets of south and west side Chicago that left eight people dead and 23 wounded, according to Chicago Sun Times.
Maurice Knowles, 16, was struck by a bullet in his chest as he sat on a porch Monday evening in the Roseland neighborhood. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to a hospital. A 22-year-old, who was nearby, was hit by a bullet in his back but refused medical treatment.
“This happens quite a bit around here. You don’t feel safe, and it feels like it isn’t going to get any better,” India Spears, 24, a bystander and resident of South Side Chicago told Chicago Sun Times.
Earlier Monday, 21-year-old Jerome Wood was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn. John Wallace, 25, Ramaine Hill, 22, Fredrick Brown, 27, Carl Pate, 56, Daniel Ortiz, 21, and John Atkins, 33, have been named as the other victims of fatal shootings since Friday.
