Vince Staples's 'Señorita' Video Is Set in an Urban War Zone
Vince Staples deserves all the excitement right now for his highly anticipated major label debut, Summertime ’06.
Last night at Def Jam Upfronts 2015 in New York, the Long Beach MC proved he’s different from his competitors with an energetic performance that impressed the crowd. At this level in his career, Staples has stayed true to himself by sharpening his lyricism without compromising his message. The latest example is “Señorita,” which he performed live, and afterward promised the video would be dropping at midnight on his personal website.
Directed by Ian Pons Jewell, the visuals are set in an post-apocalyptic urban war zone where people are dying all around Staples. All that’s left to do is survive, but Staples maintains his cool throughout the chaos. Snoh Aalegra makes a cameo as the heroine who can save Staples ... or possibly be his enemy. At the end, we understand the bigger picture behind the video for "Señorita," in that it deals with America’s obsession with violence.
The Future-sampling track will appear on Summertime ’06, which is dropping on June 30. Watch the video below.
