Serena Williams Kept Pregnancy Secret From Daughter Olympia
Tennis legend Serena Williams is sharing some details of her pregnancy with her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian.
In a short video for her new YouTube channel, Williams shares one major detail. She and her husband hid the pregnancy from their daughter, Olympia.
“Olympia does not know right now that I am pregnant, so the big reveal will be at the Met, and then before we leave, I’ll tell Olympia,” Williams shared. She clarified that the purpose for the secrecy was simply because her 5-year-old daughter doesn’t exactly excel at confidentiality. “The reason I haven’t told her is because she can’t keep a secret.”
In an essay for Vogue in 2022 when the 23-time Grand Slam champion announced her retirement, she indicated that part of her reasoning was for her family.
“Alexis and I have been trying to have another child,” Williams wrote. “I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”
She also shared how much Olympia wanted to be a big sister. “Sometimes before bed, [Olympia] prays to Jehovah to bring her a baby sister. (She doesn’t want anything to do with a boy!),” Williams shared.
Williams has not shared the sex of the baby or her due date.
She and Ohanian made the announcement to the world on the red carpet at The MET Gala as Ohanian cradled his wife's baby bump as Williams was dressed in a gorgeous custom Gucci gown.
