G Herbo to Plead Guilty in Wire Fraud and Identity Theft Scheme

The Chicago rapper was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2020.

G Herbo has reportedly agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud and lying to federal agents after being accused of using stolen identities.

The Chicago rapper, born Herbert Wright, was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2020. G Herbo, along with five associates, allegedly used the stolen identities to amass $1.5 million in fraudulent charges.

“Wright used the proceeds of these frauds to travel to various concert venues and to advance his career by posting photographs and/or videos of himself on the private jets, in the exotic cars, and at the Jamaican villa,” alleges the plea agreement — which was made public on Wednesday (July 19). “In addition, Wright helped Strong obtain designer puppies from a business by falsely representing to the business that Wright was the actual purchaser of the puppies and by concealing Strong’s actual identity from the business.”

The Chicago Tribune reports that the case was charged in Massachusetts because one of the private airline owners is based there.

The plea deal will now head to a judge for approval. Herbo is slated to formally plead guilty later this month. He faces up to 20 years in prison. But the rapper is likely to get a lower sentence with a potential term of probation, court records show.

In addition to the rapper, promotor Antonio Strong signed on to the plea deal. It is alleged that in November 2018, G Herbo lied to a U.S. federal agent regarding his relationship with the Chicago hip-hop promoter. Strong is accused of being the mastermind behind the whole scheme.

According to the charges, a long history of correspondence between the two was revealed. The communications included text messages, phone conversations and social media direct messages. Herbo claimed to have never provided Strong money or to have received anything of value from him.

G Herbo, as part of the plea, will pay $140,000 in restitution to a number of alleged victims.
