Summer Walker Cuts Her Tour Short Amidst Social Anxiety Struggles
Atlanta songstress Summer Walker's breakout year of 2019 has seen chart-topping highs, but also career-intrusive lows.
Amid the tolls of public scrutiny and the additional stress of touring, Summer has revealed that she’s finally taking a step back in the name of mental self-care. On Tuesday (Nov. 12), Summer announced that she is cutting her The First & Last Tour short to safeguard her mental health. The announcement comes just one day after Summer asked for fans to respect her personal boundaries when one concertgoer complained online about a recent “disappointing and anticlimactic” experience with the songstress during her meet and greet.
In a video clip published to her official Instagram page, the R&B songstress explained that she ultimately made the call out of self-preservation as she’s been struggling with her social anxiety.
“Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to finish this tour because it doesn’t really co-exist with my social anxiety and my introverted personality. I really hope that people understand and respect that, at the end of the day, I am a person. I have feelings. I get tired. I get sad and it’s just a lot. I don’t want to lose myself for someone else. I want to give y’all what I can. So, I’m going to keep making music and I’mma do a few shows but I can’t finish.”

In the post’s caption, Summer reiterated her gratitude for the fans that have been supportive and understanding of her mental health struggles. She shared the nine scheduled shows she still plans to hold while full refunds will be issued for the canceled dates.
“I want to continue to be healthy and to make music for y'all…I hope you all can understand. I'm grateful for every single one of you, and I hope that you understand that wellness [and] mental health is important,” she concluded in her note.
