Ray J Says He Doesn't Think He's A Bigger Star Than Brandy
Ray J first came to prominence as Brandy's little brother.
Though he scored a Top 40 hit with his first single, "Let It Go," back in '97, his commercial success paled in comparison to his big sister's catalog of multiplatinum albums. Lil' Kim even referenced Ray's no. 2 status with a line off his 2001 hit, "Wait a Minute," when she asked, "Wait a minute, ain't that Brandy's brother?"
What a difference nine years makes. Following a string of independent smash hits like, "One Wish," "Sexy Can I" and a wildly popular reality show, "For the Love of Ray J," that "little brother" is bigger than ever. Meanwhile, Bran seems to be struggling to recapture her glory days. Both stories are being documented on VH1's "Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business."
But are things still all good between the star siblings? A sneak peek at the second season of "Family Business" revealed that there may be tension between the two. "Now, I'm starting to feel like you jealous of me," Ray shouted at Bran during an argument featured in the new season's trailer.
"Jealous?" Brandy scoffed. "Asking me am I jealous of you is you thinking that I'm jealous of you."
"You don't know me," Ray retorted. "I'ma be good by myself, you watch and see, you watch and learn." [Watch Video Here]
By the looks of the trailer, one might think Ray now thinks Brandy is "Ray J's big sister." But the R&B singer tells BET.com that's not the case.
"Well, let me first off say, I don’t think I’m anywhere near a bigger star than my sister," Ray told BET.com. "She’s my mentor and she’s the person that opened up a lot of doors for me. And I think sometimes when you're just in a heated argument and sometimes when you’re just going in and you’re upset about something, you just kinda let everything out. And I think we do that on the show and we don’t try to candy-coat it, or erase the tape. Sometimes things get a little heated, but it’s still all love."
He added, "Brothers and sisters fight, but it’s never any competition like that because that’s not real. She’s the one that I looked up to, to be where I’m at, so it could never be like that."
