Colin Kaepernick continues to make history off the field as Harvard University announced the star quarterback and social justice activist will receive the coveted W.E.B. Du Bois Award.

On Oct. 11, the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard will present Kaepernick, comedian Dave Chappelle and others with the medal for their contributions to Black history and culture, reported Yahoo Sports.

When Kaepernick first began kneeling during the national anthem as a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, his football career took a major hit and he still has not been signed by an NFL team. However, his protests against police brutality have stirred waves with the public. In addition to being at the center of an incredibly moving “Just Do It” campaign for Nike, Kaepernick has also has arranged for $1 million in donations to a range of charitable causes.

His jersey and other mementos have been added to a “Black Lives Matter” collection at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History.
