Keke Palmer Talks Body Positivity After Giving Birth to Son Leo

“After having my baby, I’ve gotten so much more powerful.”

The Queen of Memes is keeping it real like she always does on her motherhood journey and those brand-new curves she loves to flaunt.

During a candid interview with The Cut, Keke Palmer shed light on how she is adapting to her body after giving birth to her son Leo, whom she shares with Darius Jackson. This comes on the heels of a messy online debacle after Jackson called her out for her choice of attire while at Usher’s Las Vegas residency. In a since-deleted Twitter post, Jackson wrote, “It’s the outfit tho…you a mom.”

Jackson’s comments led to people coming to Palmer’s defense. When asked by the outlet about the support she was receiving from moms, she kept it quite matter-of-fact. “Do you, new moms. Do you. Girl, if there’s one person on this earth that loves you for sure, it’s that baby. Be happy, because there’s no love like it. Somebody loving you like that, hell, who cares?"

As a public figure, Palmer knows the spotlight is always on her, which isn't always easy. “I’ll be honest, I think before I even had the baby, I was really actually quite self-conscious. In a way that you would expect, considering the kind of work that I do as a public figure. Always trying to be on point with my body and always trying to make sure I’m taking care of this and that. There’s a lot of physical attention. Being slim and being fit in a particular way was always something that I was gunning for.”

But she appreciates how she is evolving, not only as a mom but as a woman. “After having my baby, I’ve just gotten so much more powerful. I’m just so strengthened in a crazy way. Strutting my stuff, enjoying [it]."

Since giving birth to baby Leo in February, Palmer has been turning heads and slaying in the fashion department and addressed how her body has evolved. She told the outlet, “After having the baby, my body got so much bigger, and I started getting fluff in areas I never had before.”

She credits her trainer Corey Calliet for encouraging her to own the skin she is in and enjoy the ride along the way. He told her, “Well, we are never going to try and get your body back to how it was before a baby because you birthed a child.” She continued. “It’s like, that’s not something to hide, that’s something to embrace. We’re going to lean into this new body. That is the whole aura of what’s happening with me in this big boss era as I come into my 30s.”
