Here's Why Police Arrested Korryn Gaines's Boyfriend
Kareem Kiean Courtney, 39, is the boyfriend of 23-year-old Korryn Gaines, who was shot and killed by Baltimore police last week. Courtney lived with Gaines and fled the residence with a 1-year-old when police arrived to deliver warrants. After he left the home, he was arrested and later released.
However, police recently conducted a search of the home that Courtney and Gaines shared. During the search, police found the shotgun Gaines held during the fatal standoff, ammunition scattered around and three bags containing 75 capsules totaling 26.7 grams of heroin.
After searching the apartment, police officers arrested Courtney. He is facing nine charges, including drug possession and distribution of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating the apartment as a "common nuisance" for the illegal distribution of drugs and at least five charges related to the shotgun and ammunition found in the apartment.
The charges will be added to Courtney’s rap sheet, which already includes a prior attempted murder conviction. The 1996 murder conviction, which earned him an eight-year sentence, made it illegal for him to possess or have access to a firearm in the state.
Courtney remains held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
