Get Out  is still winning, especially after four nominations at the Gotham Awards. The horror flick  managed to merge scares and racism like we've never seen before on screen. However, director Jordan Peele revealed what exactly inspired the flick, and it has to do with Obama.

At Sunday's Film Independent Forum, Peele explained that the lie of our country being post-racial under the Obama administration inspired the film, which is when he was working on the movie. "Being an African-American, I have never seen my perspective in a horror film,” Peele said to moderator Elvis Mitchell. “[Get Out] has my worst fears realized as a Black man in this country — from the evil white girl who’s been lying to you to the lacrosse stick — those things are foreign to me."
In referencing the opening scene, where Lakeith Stanfield's character is being followed by a car, Peele explained, “Black people would recognize that fear — it’s part of the Black identity.... There are things we are cognizant of because we have to be. For white audiences, they see how it is to be a Black man in a suburban neighborhood at night.”

Well said, Jordan. And Lord knows "post-racial" was always a damn lie.
