President Barack Obama's oldest daughter, Malia Obama, was just nine years old when her dad took office. Now, she's a beautiful, smart young woman who's ready to make her own mark on the world. And it's making us feel really, really old.
The First Daughter, who turns 18 next month, graduated from the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C. On Friday, with her mother and father cheering her on as she accepted her diploma. 

Obama was seen giving his daughter a big hug after the ceremony. As a source told The Washington Post, "He was just a total dad."

You may imagine that people would be rather excited about the president's attendance. But Sidwell is used to famous children walking its halls as children of Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover and Teddy Roosevelt are Malia's fellow alumni.

Malia recently let her post-grad plans known, she will be following her mom and dad's footsteps and attend the prestigious Harvard University. Only after taking a gap year, however. It is understandable that after eight years, the young woman wants to take the opportunity to spread her wings a bit. While Malia will be guarded by members of the Secret Service, like college-bound first-daughters before her, she is sure to enjoy the newfound sense of normalcy. 

Many took to Instagram to post pics of Malia, and the first family celebrating her graduation.

As Obama promised during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show on Thursday and a group of supporters during a visit in Michigan earlier this year, the president did wear a pair of big, dark glasses to shield his tears of joy. "I'm going to be wearing dark glasses," the president told supporters in Detroit. "I'm going to cry."
