Leading Women Defined by Mom: Lynn Richardson

The financial coach sends a special tribute to her two mothers.

In addition to being a wife and mother of three beautiful daughters, Lynn Richardson runs companies for celebrities and is also a financial coach.

During a recent interview, Lynn told BET Networks about her two moms – her mom and grandma – and how the advice they gave her from childhood has stuck with her and remains relevant today.

“My grandmother raised me, but my mother was always around,” Lynn shared. “So my mom was really cool. When she’d show up on the scene, her hair was done and she wore nice clothes.”

“She’s kind of like a Madea,” Lynn says about her grandmother. “She told you the truth, and sometimes you’d have to say ‘ouch’ or ‘amen,’ or both.” With gratitude, Lynn recalls the best advice she got from her grandmother, “Don’t run ahead of yourself.” Lynn admits that as a young, extremely motivated girl, she didn’t quite know what her grandmother meant by this advice.

“I never knew what she meant by the advice, but I know now,” Lynn shares. “As I travel from city to city, sometimes I don’t get enough sleep and sometimes I haven’t had anything to eat, but what I realize is I have to take care of myself, and I know very well now what my grandmother meant by ‘don’t run ahead of yourself.’”

For Lynn, Mother’s Day is a day of holistic being and she looks forward to being surrounded by those she loves and people who love her. She believes, “As mothers, because we bring life, life comes through us. Mother’s Day is an opportunity for us to just be grateful for the blessing of God and grateful for love.”

When asked what she would want to tell her mom, she shared the following poetic and heartfelt response: “I’d want to tell my mom this: You are me. You’re the reason I’m here. I love you; I honor you; I appreciate you – your laughter, your smile, your struggle, your pain, your love and your joy. In many cases, people think honor means love, but love is a state of mind. Honor is a doing, and I’m happy to be in the doing of being your daughter. I love you.”

This Mother’s Day, join us as we honor and celebrate Lynn’s mother and grandmother.
