Olympian Ari Ramsey Shocked By Free Healthcare at Paris 2024 Olympics
Ari Ramsey is truly living her best life right now.
Fresh off her bronze medal victory on July 30, the Rugby player has been making the most of her time off by diving into other sports and catching up on all her medical checkups, courtesy of the free healthcare available at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ramsey's enthusiasm for this perk has gone viral, as she’s been documenting her experience with the free healthcare services that have been a staple for athletes since the 1932 Games, on TikTok. Her viral moment began with a video about her surprise after receiving a free Pap smear in Paris. "Okay, y'all, not only do we have free food in the Village, but we have free dental care, free healthcare. I literally just got a Pap smear for free, and I have a dentist appointment and an eye exam next week. Like, what?" she exclaimed.
In a follow-up video, the 24-year-old passionately stated, "America needs to do better with its healthcare system because there’s no reason why I, an American, should be so shocked by free healthcare."
Ramsey's reaction highlights a stark reality: the United States remains the only high-income country without universal healthcare. In contrast, many other countries, including those participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics, offer their citizens free or heavily subsidized healthcare services, underscoring the disparity Ramsey and many others feel.
