Simone Biles Is The GOAT, And Her Explanation For Wearing Bedazzled Leotards With The Icon Is Just As Legendary!
Simone Biles is the GOAT, and that’s not up for debate! Living in her truth, the Olympic gymnastics champion has found a subtle—yet powerful way—to put the “haters” in their place, and uplift those who want to follow in her footsteps: rhinestones!
If you closely follow the five-time Olympic medalist’s career, you may notice that the bedazzled image of a goat has become a mainstay on her competition leotards. While chatting with Marie Claire, she revealed the detailed meaning behind the icon, named “Goldie”.
“The idea was to hit back at the haters,” she explained to the publication earlier this week. “I didn’t feel like it was necessarily fair how they could keep saying whatever they wanted, but then if I said something, it wasn’t fair.”
She continued, “[The haters] were joking like, ‘I swear, if she put a goat on her leo, blah, blah, blah.’ That would make them so angry. And then I was like, ‘Oh, that’s actually a good idea. Let’s make the haters hate it, and the fans love it.’”
The rest is her-story! Since then, fans have dedicated themselves to pointing out the sparkly icon that symbolizes her status as the “Greatest Of All Time.”
“I just hope that kids growing up watching this don’t or aren’t ashamed of being good at whatever they do,” she revealed. “And that’s my problem: When people kind of harp on other people that are good at something. And it’s like, everybody can say you’re good, but once you acknowledge it, it’s not cool anymore.”
The most decorated U.S. women's gymnast in history added, “And I want kids to learn that, yes, it’s okay to acknowledge that you’re good or even great at something.”
