Is There An Age Limit To Showing Your Goodies On Social Media?
NeNe Leakes recently joined the 50 club along with fellow housewife Cynthia Bailey, but one thing we’ve seen more of from her than model friend Cynthia is an uprising in body confidence. Over the last few weeks the 50-year-old has posted picture after picture on the gram in short, sexy and revealing outfits. And although she’s 50, NeNe certainly has no shame in her game, appearing to be more confident now than ever. Thus probing the questions, is it inappropriate for women above a certain age to show off their bodies in this manner or is this type of body positivity and confidence welcome across all generations?
Let’s break this down, because NeNe isn’t the only beauty who’s pushed the “so-called” fashion boundaries while aging. Marjorie Harvey, 53-year-old wife of Steve Harvey and mother of model daughter Lori Harvey, is always giving her 21-year-old a run for her money with daring fashion choices. Whether it’s legs for days, cleavage or side boob, Marjorie has shown time and time again that age ain’t nothing but a number.
Also consider R&B legend Mary J Blige, who is 47 years old and is the queen of rocking a bra or corset and teeny shorts with no fear.
And lastly, 53-year-old Vivica A. Fox, who is a cougar that loves to show off her girls in revealing tops. These are just a few of the women that come to mind when probed with the above questions.
The reality is, it is so stereotypical of us to assume that only younger women can have nice bodies to flaunt in their choice of clothing, which is often overtly sexy, and be proud of it. But this type of thinking is far from the truth. It’s something that I believe is a thought that most people have succumbed to due to the portrayal of women in media and the societal teachings of how women are supposed to portray themselves as mothers, career women, housewives, etc.
When these female celebs, NeNe, Marjorie, Mary J, and Vivica, post or are captured having a revealing or sexy fashion moment, my first thought is “Wow, they look amazing!” I’m very much envious, because, to be honest, their bodies are more bangin’ than mine, the 27-year-old writing this article.
Therefore, it’s not a matter of what age is appropriate or not to show off your body by wearing sexy outfits. It’s about when us ladies are comfortable in our own skin and celebrating the art of our curves, abs, booty, boobs or whatever is making us feel confident. And for me, when I get to the level of what I envision as a snatched body, whether it’s now or in my 50s, I’ll be happily showing the world.
So ladies, in the words of one of Beyoncé, “If you got it, flaunt it,” whenever and however makes you happy!
