Here's Why LeBron James Warned LaVar Ball to 'Keep My Family Out of Your Mouth'
In a short period of time, LaVar Ball has made a lot of noise with his braggadocious statements about his three sons.
The outspoken father of UCLA star Lonzo Ball and Chino Hills High School (Chino Hills, California) sensations LaMelo Ball and LiAngelo Ball has already predicted that Lonzo "will be better than Steph Curry and that he himself would've beat Michael Jordan 1-on-1 back in the day. That and he boldly demanded a $1 billion sneaker deal for his three sons.
With no filter, LaVar will likely keep sounding off on a number of topics. LeBron James just wants to make sure his kids and family stay out of his mouth. That's precisely why King James issued this warning to LaVar yesterday.
"Keep my kids' names out of your mouth. Keep my family out of your mouth," James said, as reported by ESPN. "This is dad to dad. It's a problem now."
The three-time NBA champion came down hard on LaVar after the bold father previously said that his trio of sons are better set up for hoops success than LeBron's two sons, LeBron James Jr., 12, and Bryce Maximus James, 9.
"The monsters in the NBA, their dads wasn't that good," Ball said on a recent episode of Chris Broussard's podcast, In the Zone. "They were OK, they was players, but the fact that the old [Dell] Curry wasn't no All-Star, he wasn't cold. He could shoot the ball, though. Kobe Bryant, his dad wasn't all that, that's why he's such a monster."
Ball added: "You got LeBron, it's going to be hard for his kids because they are going to look at them like, 'You got to be just like your dad.' And after a while, that pressure starts sitting on you like, 'Why do I got to be just like him? What can't I just be me?' And then they are going to be like, 'Aw, you're soft, you're not that good.' Because the expectation is very, very high."
While Curry didn't want any parts about weighing in on LaVar's comments, King James wasn't having it at all. After praising Lonzo, LeBron once again made his warning clear to LaVar.
"I actually like his son," James told ESPN about Lonzo, who will look to lead UCLA past Kentucky in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night. "I like his game."
LaVar is a different story, altogether.
"He can talk all about his brand, talk about his sons, talk about basketball, talk about me," James continued, "but keep my family out of this."
