Here's Why Colin Kaepernick Won't Be Protesting the National Anthem Next Season

What happened that made the QB have a change of heart?

Colin Kaepernick believes he made enough of a difference and impact kneeling during the national anthem last season that he doesn't need to again this year.

Adam Schefter, ESPN's NFL Insider, reported today that Kaepernick will stand during the national anthem before games for the 2017 season.

What sparked the quarterback's change of heart?

Well, Schefter announced on SportsCenter that Kaepernick "no longer wants his past method of protest to detract from the positive change that he believes has been created."

While his explanation makes sense, select critics aren't taking it like that at all.

They think his decision is based on the fact that Kaepernick will opt out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers this week and will be searching for a QB job with another team as a free agent next week.

On ESPN's Fist Take this morning, Stephen A. Smith called Kaepernick's decision to stand during the national anthem next season "incredibly opportunistic" and that "he's not fooling anybody," insinuating that all the QB is doing is attempting to prolong his career in the NFL.

Watch Smith's comments from the 6:22 mark below.

While the exact reason for Kaepernick's 180-degree turn will likely continue to get scrutinized, there isn't any arguments over the 29-year-old's willingness to put his money where his mouth is to combat racism and police brutality.

Last year, his foundation pledged to give $1 million to community organizations fighting the two issues.

He also donated the full proceeds from his jersey sales to the communities that needed it the most in addition to launching his Black Panther Party-inspired "I Know My Rights" camps nationwide, beginning with at-risk Bay Area youth.

Do you buy Kaepernick simply saying he made his point and will now stand during the national anthem or do you think his decision is based on extending his football career?
