CC Sabathia Checks Into Alcohol Rehab
The New York Yankees will host the Houston Astros in an American League Wild-Card Game on Tuesday night, but Yankees' pitcher CC Sabathia is headed to alcohol rehab.
In a stunning announcement Monday, Sabathia mentioned that he is seeking help to treat his issue.
"Today I am checking myself into an alcohol rehabilitation center to receive the professional care and assistance needed to treat my disease," Sabathia said in a statement, as reported by TMZ Sports.
"I love baseball and I love my teammates like brothers, and I am also fully aware that I am leaving at a time when we should all be coming together for one last push toward the World Series. It hurts me deeply to do this now, but I owe it to myself and to my family to get myself right. I want to take control of my disease, and I want to be a better man, father and player."
The announcement comes less than two months after the pitcher was reportedly involved in a street brawl outside a Toronto nightclub.
Sabathia, 35, made $23 million this season and just completed his 15th season.
