Floyd Mayweather to Face Marcos Maidana in Rematch
It hasn’t been announced formally just yet, but Floyd Mayweather said he’d be facing Marcos Maidana in a rematch on Sept. 13 during a BET Awards red carpet interview over this past weekend.
Speaking to LaTen Media during the red carpet session of the BET Awards, Mayweather dropped the bombshell news.
“September 13, back to business — Marcos Maidana-Floyd Mayweather part two,” said Mayweather, who currently holds a record of 46-0 with 26 knockouts. “And then I’m fighting in May and I’m gonna have a big surprise for y’all. Everybody tune in.”
Many boxing reporters and fans alike thought that Maidana presented the undefeated champion with the toughest challenge of his career back on May 3. Maidana aggressively smothered Mayweather through the first six rounds before Money found a good enough groove to eventually win by majority decision.
“I have to give him [Mayweather] a rematch because I won the fight,” Maidana notoriously offered following that bout. “Yes, I will give him the rematch. I’m not scared of him, so why not give him a rematch? I definitely think I won the fight. He did not fight like a man like I expected him to.”
No other information about Mayweather-Maidana II have been announced just yet.
