Vince Morgan announced on Tuesday plans to drop out of a congressional race in which he would have challenged his old boss, longtime New York Rep. Charles Rangel. Redistricting played a primary role in his decision, Morgan said in a statement.
“A good leader must be a realist and I simply do not believe given the air of uncertainty, the short time to the June 26, 2012 primary date, that I could get my message out to what is essentially a new congressional district. Thus, I have chosen not to seek public office at this time,” he said.
Morgan, who for the past couple of years has called for new representation, plans to endorse another Rangel challenger, Adriano Espaillat.
