Drake's Getting A Special Gift From The City of Toronto Today
John Tory, Toronto’s current mayor, is slated to present Drake with a key to the city today (February 12). The news came via an announcement on Twitter during which he praises the OVO rapper and claims he’s an example of his city doing “great things.”
"I believe the key should go to individuals who make people across the city feel good about themselves and about their city,” he explained in a video posted on the social media site. “It should make us proud of who we are and what we can achieve. I want these moments to inspire us, as a city, and to send a real message: Toronto can do great things."
Toronto politicians have a long history of supporting Drake publicly. Norm Kelly, a City Councillor from Drake’s native city, has been a main antagonist of Meek Mill during Drizzy’s beef with the Philly rapper. The city has also hosted OVO Fest numerous times, something they’ve actually put money up for in the past.
It also seems like Drake was anticipating this day. He rapped on his newest song “Summer Sixteen”, "I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne / Or give it to one of the young boys to carry the wave." Mayor Tory, your key may be floating around if you’re not careful.
