Lauryn Hill Owes an Additional $446,000 in State Taxes
Lauryn Hill is currently facing jail time for failure to file a federal tax return in 2005, 2006 and 2007, but it's not just to Uncle Sam that the famed singer-songwriter owes money. The State of New Jersey recently filed suit against Hill looking to recoup $446,386 in unpaid state taxes, TMZ reports.
A civil judgment was entered against the "Doo Wop (That Thing)" singer in June, and now she's on the hook for the money in addition to owing the feds $1.8 million.
Hill pled guilty to her federal charges in June and could go to prison for up to three years. The state tax charge hasn't been filed in criminal court.
Previously, the enigmatic entertainer said she made a conscious decision not to pay taxes during the years in question as an attempt to disconnect herself from what she described as an oppressive system in America.
