Alicia Keys to Perform at 2011 BET Awards
It's already gearing up to be the hottest Awards show night in television. BET Awards '11 will air live on Sunday, June 26 at 8PM/7c from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, and the one and only Alicia Keys will be on hand as a performer!
The performance will coincide with Key's 10th anniversary deluxe edition of her debut album Songs in A Minor, scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 28 (just two days later).
The announcement came courtesy of Stephen Hill, BET's President of Music Programming and Specials on Wednesday (April 12) at BET's annual L.A. upfront. Alicia Keys, who was also in attendance at the event, talked about her piano-climbing move during her 2010 performance. Last year, a pregnant Keys took the stage at the awards to perform as part of the all-female tribute to Prince, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Keys shocked the audience, including Prince who peeked down at baby daddy Swizz during the set, by climbing up on top of her piano. At the upfront, Keys revealed that she kept the move a secret because she knew everyone would try to talk her out of it. She also added that she had to take her shoes off so she could "grip" and "slip" to make her performance extra special for Prince and BET.
