On Tuesday night, Jay-Z and Beyoncé hosted a fundraiser event for President Barack Obama at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club in Manhattan. The reception, which cost $40,000 a ticket, drew in about 100 people including the guest of honor. Beyoncé, who wore a red dress with soft curls, introduced President Obama saying, "I can’t tell you how proud we are to host tonight’s event with President Obama. We believe in his vision."
Obama took the stage and used the opportunity to thank his hosts, adding that Bey was a great role model for his girls and that wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia were mad they couldn't be there with him.
"Jay knows what my life is like. We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are," he joked. "So, you know, we’ve got a little bond there. It's hard but it's okay."
But it wasn't all jokes as Obama also prepared them for his opponent Mitt Romney's attacks as the elections draw near and touched upon this campaign's issues.
"We're on the brink of an election, but more importantly, we’re on the brink of moving America in a direction where we’re going to be more just, more fair," he said. "The economy’s going to grow in a way that includes everybody, an America that’s respected around the world because we’re putting forward our best values and out best ideals."
The fashionable powerhouse crowd sat on sofas during the event and the 40/40 Club decor featured an 18-foot tower of 350 gold Armand de Brignac French champagne bottles, Jay's favorite, that cost $800 per bottle.
