LeBron James is about to send those wish-list budgets through the roof. In a recent interview with WWD, the Miami Heat star talked about his collaboration with French watch company Audemars Piguet and his limited-edition design will be selling for an astronomical $51,500. His Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph watch, which launches today, features an 18-karat pink gold case, Arabic numerals and crocodile straps.
"I tried to do something different with a cool factor, like what Beats by Dre did for headphones," James said while preparing to shoot his promo video. "The Royal Oak is my favorite style because it allows you to wear a suit, sweats or swim trunks, and is slightly urban without being limited to an urban customer."
The 28-year-old baller has been an ambassador for the brand since 2011 and follows in Jay Z's steps, who also designed a watch as brand ambassador and was the one who turned James into a lover of fine watches. He also credits sports icons Michael Jordan's and Deion Sanders' fashion statements with encouraging him to experiment with his own style.
"These guys had swagger, and I'm a huge believer in Deion's quote about if you look good, you feel good, you play good and so on. I'm fortunate that I can fit [after slimming down] into clothes easily."
