Think Like a Man's Jerry Ferrara Talks Biggest Acting Hurdle
After spending seven years as the popular character Turtle on the ultimate TV bromance dramedy Entourage, this month Jerry Ferrara gets to be part of another ensemble family. In Think Like a Man the 32-year old plays Jeremy, the non-committer, slacker with potential. He’s paired romantically with Kristen (Gabrielle Union), the smart, driven real estate agent who wants the gold — the engagement ring. And he says discovering that Union would be his onscreen girlfriend presented him with one of his first biggest acting hurdles.
“When I found out Gabrielle was doing it [playing my girlfriend] I thought well, this is really an acting challenge," he told BET.com about his very attractive co-star. "Because how am I going to make people believe that I can actually get her? So that was a pretty good acting challenge for me."
Ferrara admits to being drawn to the movie because of its unique and original take on the humdrum romantic comedy format. “I was kind of fascinated by the fact that this story was told from both points of views,” he says. "Because a lot of romantic comedies are usually told from a specific point of view, whether it’s the woman's or the man's.”
But what ultimately sealed the deal for the actor and made Think Like a Man a great experience was to be part of the “pretty instant” chemistry Ferrara shared with his “extremely funny” all-star band of brothers cast mates, which included Romany Malco and Terrence J.
“Kevin [Hart] is hilarious even in between takes. Kevin went at it first and just disarmed everybody, right off the bat. But all the guys were funny,” says Ferrara. “Because then you started seeing ‘Oh [Michael] Ealy is hysterical too.’ And next thing you know we’re having more and more fun in between takes than on camera. And you just hoped that it translated and I think it did."
Think Like a Man arrives in theaters April 20.
