Idris Elba Plans To Open Health Care Clinic, Film Studio In Sierra Leone
Idris Elba was raised in East London by his mother, who was from Ghana, and his father, who was from Sierra Leone. However, in a recent interview with The Observer, the Thor star admits shame over never visiting either country. Elba said, "It's embarrassing. I have to go. There are plans, serious plans! I can't wait."
Among those plans include partnering with his cousin who is a nurse and opening a health care facility for sick families in Sierra Leone, the country where his parents met.
Idris also hopes to take advantage of Sierra Leone’s beautiful beaches and landscape and give the country its first film studio, explaining, "I would really like to open a studio in Sierra Leone. It's a country that can actually house and look like many parts of the world."
The African film industry is booming in countries like Nigeria, and Elba believes it can continue in Sierra Leone. He added, "If I could somehow encourage a film community to use Sierra Leone as the studio in West Africa to make films there, that would be really cool."
