Black Twitter Drags Tone-Deaf Tory Lanez for Releasing Megan Thee Stallion Diss Track After Breonna Taylor Decision

Many are calling out the Canadian rapper for releasing new music a day after the grand jury’s decision not to charge the Louisville police officers.

Tory Lanez decided to break his silence over the Megan Thee Stallion shooting, however it seems like Black Twitter would prefer the Toronto rapper remain silent. A month after Megan accused him of shooting her in the foot in July, Lanez took to social media to share his side of the story by promoting his new album, Daystar.

Lanez, whose new LP embraces his real first name, returned to Twitter on Thursday (September 24) to prepare followers for his comeback: "To my fans… I’m sorry for my silence… but respectfully… I got time today… 9 PM PST." The tweet was Tory’s first since the shooting on July 12.

  • On Friday morning, Lanez was back on Instagram to promote his new 17-song LP. "There is a time to stay silent. And a time to speak," he captioned the album's cover artwork. "I said all I could say on this."

  • On the project’s opening track called “Money Over Fallouts,” Tory addresses allegations he shot the Houston rapper, claiming that "Megan people trying to frame me for a shooting."

"Girl, you had the nerve to write that statement on an affidavit,” he raps on the track. “Knowing I ain't do it but I'm coming at my truest / Trying to keep this (expletive) 200 with you, shorty, I can prove it."

Lanez then repeatedly alludes to a relationship with Megan Thee Stallion: "I love you hard. … I'm still down to renegotiate the unity / My heart is some foolery," and claims she tried to "ruin" him by naming him the person who shot her: "Look at how you doing me, people trying to ruin me. And what's even worse is I'm still thinking about you and me."

"Gotta see a couple questions: how the (expletive) you get shot in your foot, don't hit no bones or tendons?” Tory raps. “How the (expletive) your team is trying to pay me in some whole millions? / I just lost like 10 million dollars because this cold business / But I got like 10 million followers that's gon' roll with me."

The social media posts and new diss record hit Black Twitter wrong in so many ways. From the fact he was using a violent shooting of a Black woman to market a new album to the “tone deaf” lyrics dissing a Black woman on the heels of a grand jury decision not to charge the three Louisville police officers for the shooting death of Breonna Taylor, social media was outraged.

Tory Lanez was arrested on a concealed weapons charge after the July 12 shooting. According to the Los Angeles Sheriff Department’s Inmate Information Center, he is currently out on bond after posting a $35,000 bail on July 12. He’s due in court over the felony charge next month.
