Drake And The Weeknd Make Huge Donations Amid Nationwide Protests
As nationwide protests continue across the country, Drake and The Weeknd are the latest celebrities to donate to the cause.
The two revealed that they made large donations to various charities.
Singer-songwriter and poet Mustafa The Poet challenged both Drake and The Weeknd to match his $400 donation to National Bail Out, which they readily accepted. The organization works to bail out mothers and caregivers amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Say less my brother,” the OVO leader responded in his Instagram Stories. Along with the note, he posted a screenshot of the electronic receipt showing he donated $100,000 to National Bail Out.
Just a few hours later, The Weeknd answered his call as well. He shared via Instagram that he’s donated $100,000 to National Bail Out. Additionally, The Weekend donated $200,000 to Colin Kaerpernick’s newly-launched legal defense initiative for Minneapolis protestors, Know Your Rights, and $200,000 to the Black Lives Matter movement.
In the post’s caption, the Canadian singer encouraged people to “keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our Black lives.”
“[I’m] urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it's a small amount,” The Weekend concluded.
