Kodak Black Sentenced To Nearly 4 Years In Prison On Weapons Charges
Kodak Black won’t be releasing new music as a free man anytime soon after the Miami Herald reports that the Florida MC will be spending the next few years behind bars: three years and eight months, to be exact.
Kodak has remained locked up ever since he was arrested by federal authorities on weapons charges in May 2019, right ahead of his scheduled performance at the Miami installment of Rolling Loud. The 22-year-old rap artist’s request for bail was denied after he was deemed a “danger to the community.” Prior to that, he was detained at the U.S.-Canadian border on gun- and drug-related charges.
The Miami native pleaded guilty to lying on government forms on two separate occasions to purchase multiple firearms from a Miami-based gun shop in August, the Miami Herald reports. The sentencing also comes shortly after reports that he was facing a maximum of up to 10 years behind bars. Kodak appeared back in court on Wednesday (Nov. 13) where a judge sentenced him to three years and 10 months in prison on weapons charges, according to the Miami Herald.
Kodak argued he had purchased the weapons out of self-defense because he was being targeted by gang members, according to The Blast.
But as reported by the Miami Herald, Kodak got off light with the sentence. Prosecutors were reportedly pressing for the judge to hand down an eight-year term given his frequent brushes with the law, especially in light of recent allegations that he assaulted a corrections officer ahead of Wednesday’s trial.

Unfortunately, it appears Kodak’s legal troubles don’t stop there either. The Miami Herald reports that Kodak is still under indictment for separate sexual assault charges in South Carolina. If found guilty, he faces up to an additional 30 years in prison.
