K. Michelle is as no frills as they come. Her penchant for being extremely transparent with fans and others alike is oftentimes echoed throughout her music. So, when the Memphis native took to Twitter to provide some insight on her personal life, the Twitterverse was surprised to learn of her emotional journey after being diagnosed with lupus.
According to the "Can't Raise a Man" singer, she learned of the life-threatening diagnosis after being informed by a fertlilty doctor that she would be unable to conceive children. “I was devastated for 2 weeks,” K. revealed in a series of tweets on Thursday morning (Sept. 14). “Then [I got] a call from my OBGYN saying that if I have twins they would not be full term because of my size and health. Literally I was so broken.”
The singer swiftly placed the blame on herself, claiming to have felt like she was being punished by God for having an abortion several years prior. In spite of the this, K. was overwhelmed with emotion to learn that after two weeks of misery, a doctor called saying they found the "perfect surrogate" to carry her twins.
Earlier this year, the songwriter candidly discussed her longing for two twin girls with her fiancé Dr. Kastan Sims on the VH1 reality series K. Michelle: My Life. In the clip, K. reveals that she has already decided on names for her bundles of joy ― Rainbow and Risa ― and is very open to genetically modifying their personalities.
