Chicago rhymer Common is sticking to his aim to marry Jennifer Hudson.

The 52-year-old, dating Hudson since 2022, appeared on “Today” on Wednesday, December 11, to discuss his Pete Rock-produced album “The Auditorium Vol. 1,” which is Grammy-nominated for Best Rap Album. Hudson guests on the album track "A God (There Is),” and during the 3-minute mark of the episode, the rapper called his girlfriend “one of the greatest vocalists of a lifetime.”

Common joked that he put on his “Quincy Jones hat more than [a] boyfriend hat” while recording alongside Hudson. Afterward, “Today” correspondent Al Roker asked him if the EGOT winner put him in the “hot seat” on her talk show when bringing up his previous comments about getting hitched.

"I didn’t feel like that was the hot seat. I was just being true to who I was," Common insisted. "It was the cool seat because it was really, just, man, I was telling my truth, and that truth still is there."

Common continued by calling the talk show host and singer an “amazing human being” and “beautiful person.” “And I’m loving watching her on her talk show. I’m a fan,” he said. “I watch her talk show. Just in life ... For me, I look for people in my life who are uplifting, who believe in a higher power, who treat other people well.”

He concluded, “I like that she’s busy, too. That’s good for me, too.”

In October, Hudson teased Common about discussing marriage on “The Breakfast Club” just months before and inquired if that was still his intention.

“You know what, you told me a quote that your mother said, ‘A man knows what he wants.' I was saying my true feelings about, listen, Jennifer is the person,” he said.

"If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson. I was just being honest,” Common continued.

When asked Hudson about her position on the matter, she felt the same. “My mother was right. I think if she had met you, she’d say, ‘I don't know about the rest of them, but that Common is alright with me,’” she said.
