Maino Denies Involvement in T.I. Concert Shooting, Calls Media 'Irresponsible'
It’s hard to understand exactly what happened in Wednesday night’s (May 25) shooting at Irving Plaza. Many have been quick to judge but if you examine what little we know, more questions can be raised than answers.
Many thought Troy Ave, who’s now been named a gunman in the case and charged with reckless endangerment, illegal weapons possession and attempted murder, had beef with Maino, which led to the backstage melee. According to Maino though, that’s all false as he’s standing in solidarity with Troy.
“There is no feud between rappers Maino and Troy Ave and never have been,” a statement sent to the New York Daily News by Maino’s lawyers reads. “Unfortunately any feud that occurred happened between non artists and resulted in the unfortunate death of Ronald McPhatter and the shooting of Maggie Heckstall, among others.”
Troy Ave was reportedly shot in the leg during the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital. Heckstall, an up-and-coming R&B singer who underwent surgery to have a bullet removed from her knee, is a friend of Maino’s.
Maino made his own statement yesterday (May 26) via Instagram, sending his condolences to those killed and injured the day before.
“I woke up to the usual FALSE and ridiculous lies being circulated by irresponsible members of the media,” part of the caption of the picture that shows the two rappers in the studio together reads. “What transpired was absolutely NOT the result of MYSELF or ANYBODY IN MY CAM , ENTOURAGE, TRAVELING PARTY or ORGANIZATION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. We entered the venue respectfully as always and exited in shocked like all other concertgoers.” He also wished Troy Ave a “speedy recovery” and claimed there are no "ongoing beefs" or "entourage issues" stemming from the incident.
