Comedian DL Hughley Continues His Support for VP Kamala Harris
Like some voters in this election season, stand-up comedian DL Hughley initially had reservations about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the early days of her campaign for the White House.
At that time, the actor made headlines for his criticisms based on “assumptions about Kamala’s record,” including claims that Harris sent thousands of Black men to prison for marijuana offenses during her time as San Francisco’s District Attorney.
However, in August, Hughley changed his stance when he endorsed Harris and apologized for his remarks during a surprise appearance on the final evening of the Democratic National Convention.
During BET’s Black Men’s Summit, which aired on Tuesday (Oct. 29),the Hollywood vet reiterated his support for Kamala Harris and urged voters not to repeat past mistakes.
Hughley engaged in an in-depth discussion with several prominent Black men from various industries, addressing critical issues affecting Black men, their communities, and the upcoming election.
Reflecting on past sentiments, Hughley admitted he, like others, once wanted to believe in false narratives. “Have you ever been mad at somebody so long? You forgot why you was mad, but you're going, I’m going to stay mad. If I was mad this long, there must be a reason to it, and I think that's insanity. But I think a lot of people unreasonably feel that way.”
Actor and panel guest Michael Ealy applauded Hughley, reassuring him, “I think you've got to give yourself grace because I think you have done more than enough by apologizing, apologizing publicly and looking at it like that.”
Hughley joins a growing circle of celebrities supporting Harris, which includes J-Lo, Taylor Swift, LeBron James, and many more.
