Kamala Harris to Hold Election Watch Party at Howard University
Vice President Kamala Harris is returning to Howard University for one of the most pivotal moments of her career.
This week, Harris’ campaign announced that the Democratic presidential candidate would hold her election night watch party at her alma mater in Washington, D.C.
The event is scheduled to take place at The Yard on Howard University’s campus. While detailed information on venue logistics and security protocols hasn’t been shared yet, media access will be permitted. According to CBS, the campus will be closed next week, and classes will be held remotely.
When the former San Francisco District Attorney launched her first presidential run in 2019, she officially announced her campaign from Howard University. She also used Howard as her base for debate preparation that August.
Harris graduated from Howard with her bachelor’s degree in 1986, and it was there that she pledged the first Black sorority in the U.S., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has often referred to her time at Howard as her “formative years.” Harris later went on to earn her law degree from the University of California, Hastings.
If Harris wins the election, she will make history as both the first vice president who is an HBCU alum and the first president to graduate from a historically Black university.
