The Internet Was Not Here for Madonna's Prince Tribute
Madonna took a few Internet bullets yesterday (May 22) during and after her Prince tribute at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
The idea of Madonna doing a tribute to the late legendary musician seemed strage to some, who questioned whether she was really as inspired as she said she had been. Her attempts at "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Purple Rain" seemed a bit out of touch to her critics, and had Stevie Wonder not accompanied her onstage, things could’ve gotten worse.
"Please don't have Madonna attempt a Prince song," British singer Dave Stewart of Eurythmics tweeted while observing her appearance. “Too Late,” he followed. Madonna was just the last of a slew of artists who paid tribute to Prince, who passed away on April 21. Wiz Khalifa, The Weeknd and Seal also made remarks about or performed a tribute in honor of him.
We here at BET threw out our own little shade. Make sure to tune into the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26 for perhaps more remembrance of Prince, without the unnecessary stuff.
