Watch Drake's Rare Full Interview With Zane Lowe
Drake rarely does interviews so when he does everything he says is dissected for its meaning.
Sitting down with Zane Lowe and Beats 1 Radio, the Toronto native described almost every element of his recently released album Views (formerly Views From the 6). In describing the album and the fact that its title was announced two years prior to its release, Drake says the timing had a purpose. He also described a shift in his hometown’s momentum.
"I think the announcement was more than just the album title it was a shift in the city – we saw an opening there,” he said. “The name took on a life of its own. Now the city is obviously referred to as was it is."
Perhaps the most interesting parts of his interview with Beats 1 didn’t have to do with Views. While discussing his collaborative catalog with Kanye West, Drake notes that the two have a bunch of work recorded together and might even put a joint project sometime in the future.
"I love Ye. He's a really good guy,” Drake said. “I grew up with him as a role model. Always given him credit that's why we're here right now. It's amazing to be his friend...We can link each other and discuss anything. Feeling a way on this or just leisure talk, we have a great relationship. I hope we get more music out. We were supposed to do a mixtape together an album together."
Also during the interview Drake described his musical chemistry with Rihanna and his rather non-existent relationships with The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj, which he defends by explaining how he still highly respects those artists even though they don’t talk much.
