Tracee Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty Welcomes Christiane Pendarvis As Co-CEO

A significant move in the evolution of the iconic haircare brand.

Tracee Ellis Ross’ brainchild, Pattern Beauty, is welcoming Christiane Pendarvis as the new co-chief executive officer.

According to the company, with brand president Rachel Jonas Gilman, Pendarvis’ goal alongside Ross is to “ drive strategy to help further scale Pattern Beauty.”

In a statement reported by Business of Fashion, the black-ish star said, “To be able to attract somebody of Christiane’s gravitas and business building caliber is precisely what Pattern Beauty needs in order to continue executing on my vision for it to become the preeminent leader in the curly, coily, and tight textured hair category.”

Ross also shared that she is thrilled to welcome Pendarvis to the Pattern Beauty family, and she looks forward to working closely with her for many years.

With nearly three decades of experience leading direct-to-consumer and omnichannel retail businesses like Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, where she was the co-president, Pendarvis has garnered a reputation for “her ability to translate insights into business strategies.” The brand cited, “She has extensive strategic planning, assortment development, digital commerce, and retail operations experience and has driven large-scale technology infrastructure projects.”

In the statement, Pendarvis said, "Tracee, Rachel Gilman, and the entire Pattern Beauty team have built a brand with superior quality products. Their unique understanding of the specific hair care needs of their customers is the reason why the brand has such high customer loyalty and engagement. I'm excited to be a part of Pattern Beauty's continued growth and expansion."

In partnership with brand incubator Beach House Group, Ross started Pattern Beauty in 2019 as a way to unapologetically celebrate Black beauty. It is currently available in 10 global retailers, like Ulta Beauty, Sephora, and Boots, offering products that address various hair needs, including washing, styling, treating, and heat protection for all hair types.

"When I began the journey of understanding and loving my hair and my curls, it was a process," Tracee shared with Byrdie about her hair journey in February 2021. She continued to explain that in the 10th grade, she stopped relaxing her hair. "From that point on until I was like 27, I went on this journey of trying to understand, get to know, and make sense of my hair. I tried every product in the world."
