Michelle Obama Won’t Attend Donald Trump’s Inauguration
Expect to miss former First Lady Michelle Obama at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. This marks the second high-profile event the attorney has opted to skip in recent weeks.
Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, along with their respective spouses, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton, are all expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol. However, Mrs. Obama will be noticeably absent.
The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed her absence in a statement shared with the Associated Press but did not provide further explanation for her decision.
The former first lady also chose not to attend the recent state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, where her absence stood out among a gathering of former presidents and their spouses.

At that event, Barack Obama and Donald Trump were seated next to each other and were seen chatting and laughing—a stark contrast to the tension between the two leaders during Trump's presidency.
The former first lady’s absence at both events may be interpreted as a continuation of her long-standing criticism of Trump.
She campaigned against him during his 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential bids, often delivering impassioned speeches denouncing his rhetoric and policies.
