Redman Calls 2-Year Celibacy the ‘Best Thing’ He’s Done

The ‘Muddy Waters Too’ rapper said that sex was ‘feeding the flesh.’

Redman got back to the music by taking a vow to remain abstinent for a little over two years.

The rapper, who released his latest album, “Muddy Waters Too,” in December, appeared on “Ambrosia for Heads” podcast “What’s the Headline” on Saturday, January 11, for an extensive near two-hour long episode.

Around the 30-minute mark, the New Jersey native shared that celibacy was crucial to him dropping his eighth solo studio album.

“My girl and I broke up maybe three, four years ago. I was going through such a shit divorce that lasted seven years that played a role in why it took so long to drop ‘Muddy Waters [Too].’ I had so much on my plate,” Redman shared.

He continued, “I actually fasted two years and a half—no fucking, no smoking. Straight two years and a half. It was the best thing I could have done in my life. It was the best thing.”

The rapper admitted that he was tempted to fall back into the habit, which he continued to avoid. “And believe me, I wanted to, I was fighting it, I was sweating,” Redman said. “I was in my house going crazy ’cause I live alone. I was constantly talking to myself. Me and God, just back and forth. But I made it, and it was the best thing I could have done.”

On practicing celibacy, he added that it “cleared out so much distraction.” “My reception is much clearer now. Having no sex is nothing to me now because it was all feeding the flesh. Once I did that, I was able to control how I moved, what I like, what is not good for me.”

Redman ultimately made the “disciplined choice” not to “move frantically” amongst women and “better himself,” but first needed to “cut out the young boy s**t” and put on his “big boy pants.”

Male artists who’ve also publicly spoken about their celibacy streaks are Omarion, who refrained from sex for three years, and Lenny Kravitz, who’s been single for nine years.
