The historic Grauman’s Chinese Theater is a leading attraction in Los Angeles that is best known as the place where movie stars have cast their hand prints and feet in concrete. Will Smith, the Academy Award-nominated actor, joined the ranks of those stars when he was so honored at the theater on Dec. 10, 2007.
Smith, one of the significant movie stars on the Hollywood scene, also enjoyed success in television and music. Newsweek magazine called him the most powerful actor in Hollywood. He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards and four Grammy Awards.
Smith attracted national attention in the 1980s, when he gained fame under the name “The Fresh Prince.” His popularity grew when he starred on the popular NBC series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which ran for six years.
Smith moved forcefully into films and starred in a number of highly popular movies. He is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross more than $100 million in American box office totals. He has had 10 consecutive films to gross more than $150 million internationally. He received Academy Award nominations for best actor in Ali and in The Pursuit of Happiness.
