Tory Lanez Sentencing Moved To Provide Defense More Time
On Tuesday (June 13), sentencing was delayed for Tory Lanez at the request of his defense team to provide them more time to file a sentencing memorandum.
According to KABC-TV, Superior Court Judge Herriford reset the date for August 7 for the Toronto rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson.
Prosecutors are asking Lanez be sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Tory Lanez’s Attempt To Disqualify Judge Fails Before Sentencing
During a hearing last month, Judge Herriford rejected the defense’s bid for a new trial. Jose Baez, one of the 30-year-old’s new attorneys, called his client’s defense during the trial "a jumbled, bungled mess,'' and that lawyer George Mgdesyan "did not have enough time to prepare for trial and ultimately failed.”
On May 8, Tory Lanez pleaded with a judge for a new trial and to not “ruin” his life. On December 23, he was found guilty of all three of his charges, including felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence, over the July 2020 shooting that took place after a Hollywood Hills party.
