Kazzie Pop Talks New Deal With E1 Records
Kazzie Pop may have been the focus of a high-stakes bidding war earlier this year due to the buzz emerging from his street bangers "Get It" with DJ Enuff and the Waka Flocka Flame assisted "We Don't F--- With That," but at the end of the day the New Jersey spitta chose the freedom of an indie over a major label machine. After turning down offers from majors like Universal and Sony, the 20-year-old wordsmith decided to go the independent route by inking a deal with E1 Music.
"With E1, I got to see how they moved with Driicky Graham (his New World Era Music Group label mate) and how they treated him, so I felt more comfortable over there," KP told BET.com. "The other labels, I read up on them and looked at other artists' situations and see what they went through, but with E1 I already knew how they work and what to expect."
Kazzie isn't the only rapper who has decided to bypass the majors and stay independent. In addition to his NWEMG label pal Driicky Graham (who scored a gold-selling smash "Snapbacks N Tattoos" last year), KP is hoping to follow in the footsteps of BET Music Matters artist Macklemore (The Heist) and Mac Miller (Blue Slide Park), who've both found groundbreaking commercial success all the while staying independent.
The Brick City rapper is already making the execs at E1 look like smart guys as his music video for the "#WDFWT" single is picking up steam. Look for it on BET's 106 & Park, where it will be today's New Joint of the day. Steadily gearing up for his E1 debut, the rookie rhyme-slinger hopes to hold fans over with a solid mixtape that should arrive just in time for summer, consisting of production from Yung Berg and others.
"The mixtape should be coming out real soon," he revealed. "I'm still doing records. I'm in the studio three times a week. It's going to be a lot of club bangers on there, a lot of records with a great story on there, people are going to be able to feel with or without a deal."
