Man Fatally Shoots His 1-Year-Old Daughter And Himself After Being Accused Of Domestic Violence
A Mississippi man fatally shot his 1-year-old daughter and himself last Thursday after kidnapping her and fleeing from police, officials say.
According to Holmes County Sheriff Willie March, 23-year-old Lavonta Lloyd had attempted to take the child from her mother on several occasions, reported the Associated Press.
On the Monday before the murder-suicide, Lloyd first took his daughter, Kamaya Lloyd, from a day care; however, Kamaya was returned to her mother, Kimberly Outlaw, later that evening. The next day, Lloyd went to the mother’s home, resulting in her calling deputies to the scene.
Although deputies chased Lloyd down some railroad tracks, they lost his trail and were called off the search due to an emergency jail escape.
That was the same week Outlaw filed a domestic violence petition against Lloyd in Holmes County Chancery Court, but a judge was not able to hear the case before Lloyd’s death.
On Thursday, Outlaw’s mother called Sheriff March to report Lloyd was holding her daughter at gunpoint. Just before deputies could arrive, Lloyd fled. No one was injured at the home.
What followed was a 30-mile chase across three county lines between Lloyd and police. Before reaching a roadblock, Lloyd’s truck veered off the road and into a deep ditch. When police broke the car open they found Lloyd and his daughter both dead.
“The baby was on top of him and had been shot,” Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks told The Greenwood Commonwealth.
