One of the best parts of the summer season, save for all of the annual festivals to make rounds at, is the clothes that come along with it. Each year, festival season is notorious for setting different trends, with dad hats, crop tops and chokers making a big comeback this year. Taking note of these trends are none other than Malia and Sasha Obama, who are now old enough to go and do their own thing (with secret service officers keeping a casual distance, of course).

The sisters have had their fair share of festival adventures this summer, between Lollapalooza and this past weekend’s Made In America celebrations. While rocking out to the likes of Bryson Tiller, Chance The Rapper and Rihanna, the president’s daughters continue to slay in comfortable-but-chic clothing fit for a music fest, sometimes even while making a little statement. 

Sasha kept things casual for Sunday’s Made In America festivities, wearing a denim mini-skirt, a black top and comfortable white kicks, while also utilizing the perfect festival accessories to tie it all together: hoop earrings, a headband and an oil-spill-inspired backpack. 

Malia on the other hand decided to make a statement this weekend, perhaps in response to people criticizing her for allegedly smoking while at Lollapalooza earlier last month. Her t-shirt reads, in all capital letters, “Smoking Kills,” acting as a snarky-yet-amazing PSA. Safe to say Barack backs that message. She also decided to remind everyone with a casual hat that she’ll be attending Harvard in the near future. Yup, she’s killing it. 

For Chance The Rapper’s set yesterday (September 4) Sasha decided to sport a strappy purple crop top with a lace pattern. She also wore a black belt and shorts, allowing herself to let sit on a friend’s shoulders while happily singing along. #CareFreeBlackGirl magic at its finest. 

Malia also is a fan of keeping it simple, rocking a pair of black shorts and a flowy tank-top, perfect for turning up in a crowd.

With the Obama sisters partaking in this year's summer festival season, both Malia and Sasha learned quickly that keeping it simple wardrobe-wise really is a major key for attending these all-day affairs, but that doesn't mean they can't do it in style. Looks like both ladies had one incredible summer '16!
