Sparkle Had Some Choice Words About R. Kelly’s CBS Interview

“ 'Everybody’s lying’ except for him... which is a problem.”

Like the rest of the Twitterverse, R. Kelly’s 1998 collaborator and R&B singer Sparkle is simply not buying the pleas he presented in his blustering bomb of an interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning.

In fact, she believes Kelly’s histrionics placed him right in his thespian element for the sit-down. The public hasn’t heard much from the “Be Careful” singer since the airing of Surviving R. Kelly, where she made the shocking revelation that her then 14-year-old niece was the victim in his 2002 child pornography film. Afterward, she took to The Clay Cane Show to clear her name against critics of her decision to introduce her young, rap-aspiring niece to Kelly, explaining that she was devastated upon discovery of the tape and immediately notified police. Now, Sparkle is taking to TMZ to share her unfiltered thoughts on his nationally televised CBS interview, which is just another one of his stage acts.

  • ‘Robert is always on stage,’ she said…

“It’s always a performance for him.” While she doesn’t want to call his meltdown completely fake, she said, the reality of his fate is starting to set in on him. She then discusses the Surviving R. Kelly documentary, explaining that she was the very first to come out against him in 2001 amid discovery of her niece in the aforementioned footage that has him facing 21 counts of child pornography. It was tough for her to revisit such a dark time in her past, she said, and Sparkle even admitted that she initially didn’t want to be a part of the Lifetime documentary. After speaking to her manager and taking into consideration her respect for the documentary’s executive producer, Dream Hampton, she decided to appear in it.

  • ‘I’ve said many times – at first – that I didn’t want him to go to jail…’ she continued…

“Because he seriously needs help. Because as you can see with the Gayle King piece, the breakdown is absolutely crazy.” Sparkle still wants to see him get help, but now believes jail will give him the opportunity to reflect on the damage he’s done — and especially since he’s still holding on to his innocence. “…Because he’s not taking accountability for anything,” she said. “So, everybody’s lying except for him…which is a problem.”
