Brandy Wants Halle Bailey to Portray Her in a Biopic
During a recent sitdown with A24, Brandy revealed that she wants Halle Bailey to portray her in a biopic. “Who would I cast to play me in a movie about my life? There’s a few people that come to mind, but off the top of the dome… Halle Bailey,” the R&B legend said.
In a 2020 Billboard interview, Brandy was asked about her thoughts on Halle’s role as Ariel in The Little Mermaid, considering she’s been in the same shoes before. In the late 1990s, Brandy made history as the first Black actress to portray Cinderella in ABC’s television adaption of the Disney classic.
Brandy had nothing but words of encouragement for the “Angel” singer. “She needs to keep positive people around her and to also stay positive and to not live her life for anyone but herself,” she said. “And I mean that in a way where sometimes in this industry, we can get caught up in what everybody thinks that we should do.”
The 45-year-old continued, “I believe that her staying true to herself is the reason why she's in a great position to do all of the things that she's meant to do.” She said Halle is “a positive role model already” to many other young Black women. “I just wish her all the best,” Brandy added. “I absolutely love Halle and I love Chlöe. I see so much of myself in Halle.”
Brandy is promoting her new role in “The Front Room,” a psychological horror thriller based on Susan Hill’s 2016 short story. The movie is about a young, pregnant couple forced to take responsibility for an estranged stepmother. It is set to release on Sept. 6, 2024.
