Marvel is spitting out movies like Prince spit out albums in the 1990s.
Over the past two years, Marvel released nine films, from Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Captain America: Civil War. Regardless of convoluted plots, video game-like CGI and running times as long as a Broadway show without an intermission, the movies are box office hits. The plots are generic, there's little to no nuance or character development, but who cares about cinematic details (well, I do) when audiences solely want to see over-the-top superhero fighting. Unlike Batman v. Superman, Captain America: Civil War does its job — but nothing more.

All of the Avengers are here: Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and too many more to count. This time around, the government believes the Avengers are vigilantes who need regulations. Half of the Avengers sign an agreement to operate under the United Nations committee while the others don't trust putting their hands in big government (sounds like a political debate). The ones who refuse to sign the agreement are breaking the law whenever they flaunt their super powers. Only their one-time friends can stop them — and CGI chaos ensues.

Captain America: Civil War checks off all the boxes: sharp fighting sequences, campy comic book humor and an epic battle between two titans, Captain America and Iron Man. The two heroes don't disappoint and their feud runs deep with a plot twist that sounds like a scene from How to Get Away With Murder. The story is engaging enough without taking itself too seriously, resulting in one of the better superhero films of the last couple years.
On another note, something needs to be done about the running time of these superhero films. Two hours and 26 minutes is asinine. Forty-five minutes could've been shaved off, which would've delivered a tighter, more action-packed film. Editing is an art form!
Overall, lower your expectations and enjoy the CGI ride with characters who can do no cinematic wrong.
