Box Office: Huge Debut for Transformers: Age of Extinction
Transformers: Age of Extinction dominated the box office this past weekend, making it the first movie of 2014 to earn $100 million in its first weekend of release.
The Paramount 3-D blockbuster, starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer, bested its predecessor, 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Mood, which debuted at $97.9 million.
Coming in second place was 22 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, which managed to uphold its strong numbers in its third week of release. Holding down the number-two position for a second consecutive week, the film grossed an estimated additional $15.4 million, bringing its three-week total to $139.8 million.
Landing in third place is the DreamWorks-produced How to Train Your Dragon 2, grossing $12.1 million in its third week of release.
Dropping 64 percent, however, is the Kevin Hart-led Think Like a Man Too, which landed in fourth place, grossing an estimated $10.4 million in its second week of release.
