On Sunday night, the formerly imprisoned wide receiver Plaxico Burress showed no ill effects from a nearly three-year layoff during his debut with the New York Jets. In fact, the 34-year-old displayed flashes of the old Plax as he blew by defensive backs, got separation and stretched out for improbable receptions during the Jets 27-7 preseason home win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burress caught three passes for 66 yards, but his most memorable catch came at the end of the first half when he stretched out and pulled in a pass while falling into the end zone for a 26-yard touchdown reception.

"Everything feels normal," Burress, who served a 20-month prison bid on a gun charge after he mistakenly shot himself in the leg, said to the Associated Press afterwards. "It feels like football. To be honest, it feels like I never left."

After sitting out the Jets preseason opener last Monday night, the Jets didn’t waste any time getting Burress incorporated into the offense. Mark Sanchez hit Burress with a 20-yard pass on the first offensive play of the night.

The crowd at the New Meadowlands Stadium went wild.

"It's the tip of the iceberg," Burress said of his debut with the Jets. "I'm just getting started."
